  • Morningstar's "Mind the Gap" research (updated regularly) consistently shows that investors typically earn lower returns than the funds they invest in, primarily due to behavioral factors like poor timing decisions. Their 2021 report indicated a behavioral gap of 1.7% annually across all funds.
  • The Financial Planning Association (FPA) and Janus Henderson's 2022 study revealed that 88% of clients valued emotional guidance and behavioral coaching more than technical portfolio management during market volatility.
  • Fidelity's 2023 "Value of an Advisor" study estimated that behavioral coaching accounted for 1.5-2% of added value. The impact is particularly pronounced during market downturns when emotional decision-making increases.
  • The CFP Board's 2021 research found that financial planners who incorporated behavioral coaching reported higher client retention rates (83% vs. 68%) and received more referrals than those focusing solely on technical aspects.
  • A 2022 Journal of Financial Planning study by Blanchett and Kaplan found that advisors who focused on behavioral aspects helped clients maintain 95% portfolio efficiency during market downturns compared to 76% for self-directed investors.
